Great Golf Down Under

Posted in Uncategorized on September 10th, 2010 by admin – 750 Comments

I buy many golf books, and I usually ravage a used bookshop or two each month. My latest and greatest purchase is a golf course book, one that doesn’t have any words in it at all other than a label or two on each spread. This golf course book is a coffee table book that highlights some famous and even not-so-famous Australian golf courses at different times of the year. In that box of books, of which I paid $5 for 30 or so books, I got a bunch of mostly useless how-to guides from the ’60s, and some golf magazines from the ’70s. It’s interesting to compare how different they are to those available today. Anyway, next time you find yourself with nothing to do, hit up a used bookshop. You might find your own gem like Great Golf Down Under.

The Best Resources for Online Golf Tips

Posted in Uncategorized on August 28th, 2010 by admin – 1,074 Comments

Have you ever looked for high-quality online golf tips only to have spam-filled random Google searches bog you down? We’ve all been there, done that. Next time you go searching start with video resources like YouTube. YouTube is chock full of online golf tips from the pros, and the signal-to-noise ratio is higher than it is with written tips.

If you’re looking for something to read, go straight to the high-profile golf magazines. All of them have a strong online presence, and in many cases, they publish as much as 75% of the magazine online. Another great avenue for free online golf tips is Google books. This is a great resource to find high-quality material from respected authors. Of course, you can’t read the entire book, but it’s a great way to expose yourself to golf books you may want to read.

Free Golf Instruction

Tips for golf can be found in thousands of magazines, sports publications and on websites related to the sport all over the internet.

Free golf instruction is generally limited to a couple of pointers for specific shots or conditions that prove to be teasers for a full explanation of something else. The PGA has started a program wherein they are offering free instruction at select courses and facilities for several days each year. The purpose of such an event is to generate interest and the sport and essentially generate revenue in the long run, however it’s a great opportunity to get instruction that might cost a great deal of money under normal circumstances. Many golf magazines and websites offer complementary instruction guides or DVD’s with a trial offer, but most don’t pan out as free entirely. Signing up for e-mail specials on a site may grant you access to pro tips or swing sequences, which can be used for instruction at home.
